NMRC’s new Noida-GreNo bus service skips Sector 137, Noida

Posted: Dec 15, 2016     By Ramesh Kumar

Despite the launch of a bus service between Noida and Greater Noida, residents of Sector 137, Noida, are a disappointed lot. Their sector has not been included in the route of the bus service.

Noida Metro Rail Corporation launched the city bus service on December 14 whose 10 buses are plying between Noida and Greater Noida. One of the routes of these buses (numbered 100 onwards) has stops at Botanical Garden, GIP, Amity University, Jaypee (Sector 135, Noida), Sector 153 Metro station (Noida), Pari Chowk and Greater Noida Authority office. The other route has stops at Greater Noida Authority office, Pari Chowk, Sector 153 Metro station (Nodia), Amity University, Sector 44 (Noida) and Botanical Garden.

Nandini Srivastava, a resident of Sector 137, Noida, said, “I thought that our wait for the city bus service would end but the authorities have neglected this sector. There are around 10,000 families residing in nine different residential apartments in the sector. One fourth of them do not own a means of transport and are dependent on private taxis or auto rickshaws.”

Hemant Kumar, another resident of the sector, said that public transport is the need of the hour in the sector. He said, “Residents, especially women, are left with no option but to take autos that charge exorbitantly. They allege that private auto drivers charge them a lot even for smaller distances.”

Rajesh Pathak, manager of City Bus Depot, said that once the Noida-Greater Noida Metro line is operational, the sector would be added to the city bus service route map. “As of now, we don’t have orders to ply the buses through the sector,” he added.

Sandeep Raizada, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) of city bus service, NMRC, said, “The route has been finalised according to a survey done by Urban Mass Transit Company [an urban transport consultancy firm], which is on the panel of the ministry of urban development, government of India. But the possibility of amending the route cannot be ruled out as it is just the beginning of the service in Noida and Greater Noida. If required, the entire route can be changed.”
