A 60-member contingent of Senior Citizen Association Dwarka (SCAD), an association of elderly residents of the sub city, went on a trip to Wagah border and Amritsar recently.
Ravi Jaitely, general secretary of SCAD and a resident of Harsukh Apartments, Sector 7, told City Spidey, “We selected 60 members for the trip on a first-come-first-serve basis as we have over 2,000 members in the association. We informed the members by sending an SMS to all of them. Over 100 people wanted to go on the trip, but considering the logistics, we had to restrict the number to 60.”
The contingent took Shatabadi Express to Amritsar, from where they left for Wagah Border. Special arrangements were made so that they could watch the Wagah border ceremony.
“The members were so excited that in order to reach Wagah border on time, they had their lunch in the buses instead of the hotel. During the ceremony, the senior citizens were seen competing with the young in chanting ‘Vande Matram’,” said Balbir Singh, president of the association.
They members also paid their respects at Jallianwala Bagh and then they relished the langar at Golden Temple. Jaitely said that most members went on a shopping spree after visiting the Golden Temple.
“After having some Amritsari Kulcha-Chhole and lassi, they bought local items such as Amritsari suits, papad and Amritsari Wadiyan. The trip was a lot of fun for everyone,” added Jaitely.
