Despite tall promises by political parties ahead of the Delhi municipal elections, resident bodies don’t seem impressed.
In a letter to the heads of all political parties contesting the polls, East Delhi RWAs Joint Front, an apex body of RWAs, has raised about 15 issues. These include air pollution, landfill sites, garbage collection, open dhalaos (garbage collection points) in residential areas, encroachments and illegal parking.
The letter reads: “These are some of the very basic issues that require your immediate attention. We don’t think any of the issues mentioned in the letter requires any further description, as these issues are clearly visible in almost every locality.”
The apex body has sent the letter to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari and Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken.
BS Vohra, president of East Delhi RWAs Joint Front, told City Spidey, “Delhi has become one of the most polluted cities in the world. Lack of proper maintenance of landfill sites has been contributing to pollution. MCD has failed to collect garbage and clear dhalaos in residential areas regularly, which has resulted in foul smell emanating from the garbage.”
“The conflict between the Delhi government and the MCD bodies on funds has often forced the sanitation workers to go on a strike. Whichever party wins the polls, we hope that the conflict does not hamper development work,” Vohra added.
The United Residents Front Action (URJA), a South Delhi-based residents' body, had raised the issue of sanitation with the parties a couple of days ago.TAGS: Delhi municipal elections / Air pollution / Landfill sites / Garbage collection / Open dhalaos / Arvind Kejriwal / Manish Sisodia / Manoj Tiwari / Ajay Maken / BS Vohra / East Delhi RWAs Joint Front / MCD / United Residents Front Action
