Noida: Walk for unity on Patel’s birth anniversary

As many 150 residents from different high rises and residential sectors of Noida participated in a walk for unity on Thursday, an event conceptualised to celebrate the 144th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Held at Meghdootam Park, Sector 50, Noida, the event was organised in association with the Federation of Apartments Owners Association (NOFAA) for high rise, Meghdootum Senior Citizens Welfare forum and jogger and walkers club.

Rajiva Singh, president of the federation, said that the day,  October 31, was celebrated as 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas' to commemorate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 144th birthday.

The walk was flagged off at amphitheatre by Prof Rajesh Sahay, secretary general, NOFAA, with a pledge of unity. This was followed by a walk in the periphery of the park by more than 150 walkers from over 40 different residential societies from sectors 50, 5,  7x and 34. A few walkers were also seen wearing masks because of high pollution levels in the air.

Sanjeev Kumar, vice-president of FONRWA and a very active member, joined along with his team of walkers from Sector 51.

Residents from Hoshiarpur and other nearby urban villages also joined in the 1.5 km long walk. Neelima Singh and Maninder Pal Singh travelled all the way from Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, to join the event.

"This park is an asset for Noida and a walk around the park is a wonderful way to remember Lauh Purush,” Neelima said.

A free of cost medical health check up camp was also organized by NOFAA along with Apollo Hospital, Noida. It was held between 7.30 am and 9 am.

The services offered were free health check up and medical advice, screening for B.P. and diabetes patients.
