Fresco bursts into dance as nine-year long wait for OC ends

Residents of Fresco, a society in Sector 50, Gurugram, have a reason to rejoice. They, finally, received their Occupation Certificate (OC) after inordinately long wait of nine years.

The decision came as big relief for hundreds of the residents living in the society sans basic amenities including water and sewer connections. In 2010, Unitech gave possession of the flats to the homebuyers. The society has 16 towers, out of which, 12 are occupied. Around 780 families living in the society were facing lot of difficulties in the absence of OC.

According to the residents, the developer was supposed to get OC in 2010. But he did not as he failed to pay the requisite amount to the department of town and country planning.

Nilesh Tandon, RWA President of Fresco, said, “We have been facing a lot of problems without the mandatory OC. Now that we have finally got it, we are a legal society and eligible for canal water line, storm water line, sewer line etc. which should have been given to us long time back.”

The residents claimed that without the OC, they were forced to extract groundwater to meet their daily requirement. Now, the society can apply for water, sewage, drainage from the concerned authorities within 15 days.

The residents have also received the OC for their swimming pool and club house along with designated parking facility inside the society premises.

Piyush Pratap, RWA member of the society, said, “It is like a new beginning for all of us. We have struggled a lot and finally, with the support of the government officials, could be able to get the OC. A majority of private banks were reluctant to give us loan without the OC and this was a major concern among the people.”

Sanjeev Sharma, a resident, said, “This is our post Diwali gift which we have been waiting for a very long time. We all are very happy to have legal status of the society.”

Visibly in a jubilant mood after getting the OC, the residents were seen celebrating the occasion bursting into a dance tapping their feet on the beats of dholak (drum).
