Gurugram: Haze failed to dampen enthusiasm of devotees to celebrate Chhath

Chhath Puja was celebrated all across the city on Saturday with religious fervor and cultural integrity of communities. The festival holds a great significance among the people from Bihar and Eastern UP.

Temporary ghats arrangements were made across the city facilitating the devotees to pay their obeisance to the Sun God.

Ghats at Sheetla Mata Mandir Sushant Lok, Dlf Cyber Hub, Sector 4 Fountain Park, Chakkarpur, Maruti Kunj and Surat Nagar Lake witnessed a sea of people performing rituals. One could easily see an endless number of bamboo baskets being carried by the devotees on their heads as a part of the ritual of this festival.

Though the whole day was hazy, but it did not dampen the spirit of the devotees who enthusiastically participated in the celebration and offer aragh to the setting sun. Amit Kumar, a resident of Sector 14 said, “It’s all about the faith we have associated with this festival. This is a legacy that is passed from ancestors to the next generation in my family. With this festival, we express our thank to the Sun God for offering energy.”

Similarly, residents of Sare Homes located in Sector 92 also made temporary ghat for the devotees. Sharing his experience, Kundan Mishra, a resident of Sare Homes said, “It is one of the most important festivals of north India. This is the first time we are celebrating the festival in the society as earlier we used to visit nearby ghats to do the puja rituals. The sanctity of this festival is truly based on purity and faith. This is the most important festival for us and it is believed that by observing fast during Chhath, one will be blessed by the God.”
