Keeping in mind the current air pollution level which has already reached hazardous category, the district administration of Gautam Buddha Nagar, on Sunday, ordered shutdown of schools in Noida and Greater Noida. All schools with classes up to standard 12th will remain closed till November 5, the order says.

The purpose behind the shutdown would have been the protection of children from the impact of the pollution. But the administration seems to have another justification for the move.

B N Singh, District Magistrate, said a number of buses, which ferry students from home to school and back, too contribute to pollution releasing carbon emission in the atmosphere.

As per a report received from Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB), the air quality has already crossed severe category which can pose health risk to humans.

The announcement of closure of schools in the city has been made by the administration taking this development into consideration.  The move, they say will reduce the number of school vehicles on roads and thereby help bring down the pollution levels.
