In the wake of air pollution emergency in the National Capital Region, Haryana state education department ordered shutdown of schools in Gurugram and Faridabad districts.

All the government, private and aided school up to class 12 in two districts will remain closed on November 4 and November 5, says the order.

Earlier, the Delhi government had announced school holiday till November 5 soon after declaration of health emergency as the air pollution reached to hazardous level in the National Capital. Similarly, schools in Noida and Greater Noida will also remain closed till November 5.

Many parents in Gurugram had been demanding that the administration should declare school holiday in view of the atmospheric pollution which has marked ‘severe’ category. Many children have been complaining of breathing problem post Diwali festivity.

Baishakhi Sarkar, one of the parents, said, “The air quality is very bad not just outside but also indoor causing breathing problem. My son has been suffering from fever and doctor has not been able find the cause behind it as he was healthy with no sign of any ailment. Of late, I am using air purifier 24X7 at my house.”

“Schoolchildren are prone to health risks from the pollution which is why we have urged the administration to consider closing down schools till the situation improves.” she added.
