Ghaziabad too declares school holiday till November 5

In the wake of heavy smog pervading in the atmosphere of the city on Sunday constantly deteriorating air quality by the day, the Ghaziabad district administration announce shutdown of all schools till Tuesday (November 5).

In a statement issued to the press, District Magistrate (DM) of Ghaziabad, Ajay Shankar Pandey, said that the transport vehicles being operated by schools and parents to ferry school children to school and back to home during peak hours contribute to the already severe situation of air pollution.

Simultaneously, Noida Authority declared school holiday for the two days in Noida and Greater Noida citing similar reasons.
"This adversely impacts the health of the children. Keeping this in view, all schools in the district are directed to stay shut till November 5," Pandey added in his statement.
In the statement, Pandey admitted that even after issuing health advisory to the public on October 31, the air quality of the city remained hazardous.
He also stated that in the recent data of Air Quality Index (AQI) revealed by Central Pollution Control Board, the amount of pollutants, PM 2.5 and PM 10, were found two-and-a-half times greater than it was a few days ago.

The move came close on heel of the Delhi government extending vacation of schools till November 8. The National Capital has already declared public health emergency.
