A delegation of residents from Sector 46 and 47, along with members of the RWA of Sector 46, on Monday got an assurance from Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) Joint Commissioner Sanjiv Singla to remove an illegal garbage dump at Sector 47.

In a meeting with the MCG official at his office over the issue, the delegation alleged that the Eco Green and Vashisht Manpower have turned the local shopping area site into a dumping ground and demanded its removal.

After giving the residents patient hearing, Sanjiv Singla assured them of timely action on the matter. He directed the representatives of the companies to remove the dump within three days. He also assured that no garbage should be dumped at the site and in case they go on doing so, an FIR would be lodged against the violators.

The illegal dumping ground is in close proximity of the residential houses which they pointed out is a clear violation of every health norm. It poses a serious health risk to the residents living there. They complained of foul smell emanating from the garbage dump has made their lives miserable.

Speaking to CitySpidey, RK Yadav, president of Sector 46 RWA, said, “This is not the earmarked site for the dumping ground and is being misused by the companies for its own benefit. The site has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other insects. We have urge concerned officials of the MCG to look into the matter and resolve the issue in a time-bound manner.”

They highlighted the Solid Waste Management rules which clearly state that the dumping ground can only be built with a written authorisation. It must be an enclosed space with boundary wall on all sides with a hard concrete floor and must have a guard be placed on the gate of the dumping ground.

Later, the delegation also met with MCG Commissioner at DC Office and submitted a memorandum highlighting various problems faced by the residents.
