EPCA bans construction activities in Gurugram in wake of air pollution

Keeping in view the increasing level of pollution in the entire Delhi-NCR region including Gurugram, the Environmental Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) has banned all types of construction activities till further order.

The direction came after the order of the Supreme Court while hearing a plea on Monday. FIRs will be lodged under various sections of the law along with heavy penalty against those who are found violating the orders, informed Deputy Commissioner Amit Khatri.

He said, “The construction work has been completely banned in Gurugram as per the order of the Supreme Court on the direction of the Environmental Pollution (Control and Prevention) Authority. These orders will remain in effect till further orders. This means that no person should do any kind of construction, otherwise an FIR will also be lodged under various sections of the law along with the penalty.”

He further said that to ensure the compliance of Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), the municipal teams are patrolling, on the instructions of EPCA, in the area day and night and those who violate the GRAP are being challaned as per the rules.

The construction activities are being stopped on the spot by the teams and construction material are covered.

The civic agency is working to prevent dust from flowing and the main roads are being cleaned through mechanized machine along with sprinkling of water on the roads and trees. They are also issuing challans against the violators of the GRAP. So far, the municipal teams have collected Rs 1. 51 lakh through challans from 50 violators.
