Patient returning from operation gets stuck in lift at La Residentia

While there is no doubt that lifts are lifeline of highrise buildings, many incidents of its malfunctioning have started affecting people. People are totally dependent on it for commuting to their flats. Amidst all this, when lifts start having problems, it is bound to bring agony to the people.

On Friday, a patient, who had undergone joint replacement at a hospital, got stuck in lift while she was returning to her flat in La Residenia, a residential society in Greater Noida West.

Navjyoti Dahiya had a harrowing time when lift got stuck for more than 20 minutes. During this time, her attendants tried everything possible to escape from the situation. They tried calling guards but were not able to connect.

Sumit Baisoya, a family friend who resides in the same society talking to CitySpidey said, “The situation of lifts is pathetic in La Residentia. It is so sad that the patient had to endure testing time while the lift was stuck. After the rescue, she looked very frightened. The situation is alarming. The builder needs to look into the matter.”

“There have been many instances in the past when residents got stuck in lifts installed in the society. The situation is same in all the towers. People are sceptical to use the lift after this incident. The problem should be addressed on priority,” he said.

Husband of the patient, Dhruv Kumar said that situation is going from bad to worse at the society. “It could have exacerbated the condition of the patient. Guards were only able to rescue us after 20 minutes. I could not describe our ordeal in words. She was in great fear. It is high time that the builder should find a permanent solution to the problem. We have no other option but to use lifts.”

Residents of La Residentia have been facing the lift-malfunctioning issue since a long time. Several incidents of lift-malfunctioning in the society have been reported in the past.

Earlier, three incidents of lift-malfunctioning happned in a span of a month. Because of which, a panic was seen in the residents who started avoiding the lift.

Following repeated incidents, the management of the society called the lift service provider, Schindler, to know why lift malfunctioning happens often.

In the meeting conducted on September 5, between the residents and the representative of Schindler, Mukesh Kumar, it was brought to the notice that there was an earthing problem in all the towers of the society but the maximum earthing was at tower 1, between 13 and 14, while it should have been between 1 and 2.
