Rid NCR of air pollution thru artificial rain: Haryana Dy CM to PM

To combat the intense air pollution that engulfs the entire Delhi and the neighbouring cities every now and then, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, on Thursday, made an appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take necessary action for undertaking cloud seeding plan in Delhi-NCR to combat the recurring environmental disaster.

Point out at the way air pollution threw the entire National Capital Region (NCR) out of gear the other day, the state deputy CM, in an animated letter, wrote to the   prime minister, “It is a matter of concern that such a situation prevailed for more than a fortnight. Unless a wartime action is taken at this moment, the situation is bound to be still worse in the coming days.”

The cloud seeding plan to wash away the toxic pollutants from the air through artificial rain in Delhi-NCR was envisaged by IIT Kanpur. However, it was kept in abeyance due to the non availability of technical support and aircraft from Central government.

“Since cloud seeding is possible only in the presence of pre-existing clouds, this is the right time to undertake the measure to bring down the pollution level.” He said.

Earlier, the IIT Kanpur sent its proposal to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) seeking assistance to implement the project during the time of severe pollution. However, the project could not be implemented due to non availability of aircraft in the absence of government’s clearance.

He urged the prime minister to take personal interest in the matter and direct necessary action.
