Uttarakhand community displays cultural richness on state day 

It was Saturday evening. Celebration and jubilation were in the air. Celebration of a colourful culture and jubilation in commemoration of the day when a state was formed in recognition of the cultural distinction of a territory. 

Uttarakhand community in Dwarka was soaked in the cultural tradition of their land all decked up with traditional costumes to celebrate the 19th foundation day of the State of Uttarakhand. They came together to celebrate the occasion at an cultural event organised at Sector 14 of Radhika Apartments under the aegis of Uttarakhand Sanskritik Manch (USM).

At the event, which was replete with of cultural and traditional fervour, the Uttarakhand community showcased the cultural richness of their land and paid homage to those who made sacrifices during the Uttarakhand Movement.  

Women belonging to the region and children performed on stage making the evening memorable. However, for some folkdances, men too joined with the female dancers while for others, women played both the roles of male and female as per their tradition.

Folk songs and dances of the hills like Bangar, Jhora, Barda Nati, Chhapeli etc. performed by the community women with flair were highlight of the evening. Children too were in traditional dresses. It seemed they were ready to take up the responsibility to carry the rich culture of Uttarakhand forward. 

Eminent personalities of Uttarakhand from various fields of were present on the occasion. They shared their views and appreciated the efforts of the community to acquaint the the generation next about their own culture and tradition.

Speaking on the occasion, president of Uttarakhand Sanskritik Manch, SS Chowhan, said, "Our effort is to bring our cultural heritage to Dwarka so that our next generation could feel their soil and heritage. This was a small effort in which people of Uttarakhand from Sector 13,14,16,17 participated in good number. We are happy to see the response of the community.”

The Manch started celebrating the foundation day of Uttarakhand every year on November 9 four years back. During this four years’ period they have not missed the occasion once.
