Gurugram: Aiming to raise awareness about environmental pollution and its impact, residents of Gurugram gathered at HUDA City Centre on Sunday and distributed more than 3000 masks to the pedestrians and people commuting on two wheeler.

The pollution protection camp was organised by Association of Certified Realtors of India, National Association of Realtors in association with Lions Club. Several RWAs and social groups including Gurgaon Moms and Gurgaon Connect supported the camp.

It aimed to create awareness among the masses and draw government’s attention towards the grave issue of environmental pollution.

Retd. Judge Nirmal Yadav was the Chief Guest of the occasion whereas Col. (Retd.) Prithvi Nath inaugurated the camp.

During the camp, they pointed out that the situation has become worse in the last five years and the government agencies were not doing enough to combat the environmental pollution. They said the civic agencies do not have proper mechanism to deal with dust pollution which has gripped the entire city.

Tejinder Sehrawat, State Secretary, All Sectors RWA Haryana said, “We are organising series of camp across Delhi NCR and this is our second camp. Stubble burning is not the only factor causing the pollution but dust and toxic pollutants are equally responsible for smog and bad air quality. One can witness heavy layer of dust along the roads and pavements causing immense pollution in the city. Our children are forced to stay inside as it is affecting their health.”

They are planning to hold a similar camp in Noida and Connaught Place. “This is a man-made disaster and this is a high time for the government to take some concrete action on the issue. North Indian states including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Himanchal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh are suffering due increase pollution levels. We are planning to handover memorandum to the Chief Minister of these states and the Prime Minister to take action which have long lasting impact,” he added.
