Radhika Apartments RWA maintains park as SDMC drags its feet

With the civic body doing nothing for the upkeep of the park, residents come forward to nurture it back to health.

The RWA of Radhika Apartments in Dwarka has taken the initiative to keep the neighbourhood park green, and protect its horticultural value. The park in Sector 14, Pocket 1, is now being watered twice a week and a guard has been deputed for its security.

Not only this, residents of the society have taken upon themselves the task of keeping the park clean. They take responsibility for cleaning the park when they are out on their morning walks.

The park has recently been transferred to the South Delhi Municipal Corporation from the DDA. President of RWA, SS Chowhan, said, “We were expecting the civic body to take over the maintenance of the park. But that did not happen. When the grass started drying out and the started plants dying, we thought we had to do something. For the past three weeks, we have been looking after its maintenance.”

The RWA has deputed a guard and its own gardener for the upkeep of the park till the SDMC takes over.

“We water to the park twice or thrice a week. Our guard keeps an eye out and makes sure the park is not defaced. The park was a barren patch before the DDA developed it in one-and-a-half years,” a resident said.

Mansukh Sharma, another resident who has been instrumental in keeping the park clean, said, “The park has been transferred from one authority to another. We are doing out bit for its upkeep, but it is not enough. I, therefore, request the SDMC to take over its maintenance as soon as possible.”
