Sewer lines, public toilet at Sector 51 crave for Authority's attention

Residents of Sector 51, densely populated residential pockets in Noida, wrote to Noida Industrial Development Authority demanding cleaning of sewer lines and public toilets in the lone children's park in their neighbourhood.

Pointing out that city is participating in 'Clean India Survey-2020', Sanjeev Kumar, general secretary of the RWA of Sector 51, said well-maintained basic amenities would only earn the city good grades and thereby help it become a smart city.

However, he regretted that public conveniences (washrooms) in the children's park was stinking for want of maintenance for the past six months. This, he said reflects on the preparedness of the city to compete in the survey. He lodged several complaints about it with the authority but nothing came of it and the problem still persists.

As the choked sewer lines are overflowing sewage water is seeping into the sector's rainy drains, which, Kumar points out is a violation of green norms. He even approached officers of the departments of public health and water supply (maintenance of sewer lines fall under the latter's jurisdiction) with a request to do take steps to resolve these issue but to no avail.

“While on the one hand, the authority wants us to cooperate in improving sanitation for higher ranking in the survey, on the other does not pay heed when we bring to their notice relevant issues related to it. If the city does not bring the desired ranking in the survey, it's the officers to be blamed. not the citizens,'' he concluded.
