Gurugram: Campaign against diesel autos started by district admin

The district administration on Friday initiated a campaign against diesel-run three-wheelers plying on Gurugram roads. This is part of the action plan prepared in the district to stop running of diesel autos from January 1, 2020.

The campaign was jointly carried out by the Regional Transport Authority, Pollution Control Board and Traffic Police.

Additional Deputy Commissioner and Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority, Mohammad Imran Raza, along with a team of officials conducted a checking operation to make drivers aware about traffic rules.

During the campaign, auto drivers, who were running without permits and pollution certificates, were issued challans. 10-year-old autos, that are still operating on roads, were seized. Around 30 autos were impounded and challaned.

He told the auto drivers to strictly follow the traffic rules emphasising on the safety of them along with passengers. He said that work on stopping operation of diesel autos started by district administration. During the campaign, he called upon the diesel operators to use eco-friendly vehicles like CNG autos and e-rickshaws.

“In order to reduce the level of pollution in the environment, it has been decided by the state government to stop diesel autos. In such a situation, it is important that diesel auto drivers start using the eco-friendly option in time.” he said.

Raza informed that intensive awareness programs are being conducted by the Regional Transport Authority for diesel auto drivers.

“Social media and other communication mediums are being used to make diesel auto drivers aware of alternative eco-friendly ways including e-rickshaw and CNG. Such campaigns will be conducted by the Regional Transport Authority from time to time.” he said.

Kuldeep Singh, Regional Officer, Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) hoped that this kind of initiative will help in reducing pollution level in the city. He said, “The situation in NCR is very serious with high pollution levels. It was important to start such kind of initiative.”
