Noida: Going strict against the violators of the ban on plastic, the Department of Public Health, Noida Industrial Development Authority, on Saturday imposed a hefty fine on seven restaurants and sweetmeat sellers operating at Sector 26 and Sector 37. 

According to officials, the authority conducted anti polybag drive in Sector 26 and Sector 37 and imposed a fine of Rs. 1.25 lakh on the defaulters found selling items in plastic bags. 

An officer at the public health department of the Noida Authority said that a fine of Rs 2,5000 was imposed on JSB Evergreen, while Delish BBQ Restaurant was fined Rs 20,000 for selling items in plastic bags. 

The authority also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on BFF Best Food Forever, Rs 10,000 each on  AI-Noor Restaurant, Moti Mahal Deluxe and Gravity Restaurant and Rs 25000 on Beekay Drycleaners for using plastic bags.

The authority had banned the use of polybag considering its ill effect on environment and animals, who chew food packets lying on the ground. Due to plastic, the drains were also getting choked.
