Indirapuram: The HMVs need to stop plying down this road!

A height barrier installed in Ahinsa Khand II, on the stretch between Mohan Nagar link road and Pusta road, was removed under police watch, and neighbourhood residents couldn't be angrier. Here's why.

Indirapuram: The HMVs need to stop plying down this road!

Residents of Ahinsa Khand II in Indirapuram are in a fix once again, all thanks to the removal of a height barrier installed on the stretch connecting Mohan Nagar link road and Pusta road.

According to Anil Sharma, a resident of a society on the stretch, the barrier was installed around 5 am on Monday to stop trucks and dumpers from plying through the residential area, and was removed by villagers and employees of a stone crusher nearby. This was done in the presence of Prem Singh, in charge of the Kanauni police station, between 9 am and 10 am on Monday itself, he added.

Some of the societies on the stretch include Niho Scottish Gardens, Ashiana Upvan and GC Centrum.

One height barrier is already installed on one side of the road. This was, however, done after a lot of to and fro between the Noida and Ghaziabad authorities. This left the other side of the road open for HMVs to ply on.

Residents had previously complained to authorities that trucks and dumpers carrying crushed stone from a nearby stone crusher passed through the area all day, leaving it dusty, polluted and unsafe for pedestrians. The HMVs use the stretch, which passes through a residential area, as a short cut between Mohan Nagar link road and Pusta road.

Residents of the neighbourhood allege that the police are hand in glove with the stone crusher mafia, which is why the barrier could be removed under their watch.

Resident associations have been trying to get barriers installed on the stretch to restrict the movement of heavy vehicles for quite sometime now. Vijay Yadav, vice-chairman of the GDA, had assured residents of the installation of the height barrier at a recent meeting.

When City Spidey took up the matter with police sub-inspector Prem Singh, in charge of the Kanauni police station, he said that putting up a permanent height barrier on a road used by so many was not an option. The barrier set up in the wee hours of the day, he added, was restricting the movement of school buses plying to and from the neighbouring Kanauni village. “We will take up the matter with GDA to instal a movable height barrier, which can be opened to let villagers and school buses through,” he said. “As for the trucks from the stone crusher, the movement of HMVs have been halted during school hours and will be completely stopped in the coming week. The HMV traffic will be redirected towards the Pusta-Chijharsi road and will not affect the residential areas."

Meanwhile, DK Maurya, general secretary of FedAOA and a resident of the area, told City Spidey that they would approach the GDA, SSP and the district magistrate with the problem. “We are planning to hold a protest against the police,” he said.
