Henceforth, littering central verges and green belts in Indirapuram will cost one dear. The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has decided to penalise those throwing of garbage in these places.

The locality (Indirapuram) has about 78 central verges and green belts. According to an official source, littering them would attract a penalty of Rs 5,000. The measure has been taken to keep the area clean and green.

Describing the decision as part of the GDA drive to keep the locality pollution-free, AK Chaudhary, executive engineer of the area in GDA, informed that the horticulture department of the authority had drawn a blueprint to achieve this goal.

"We will put up caution boards on the 78 points of central verges and green belts for litterbugs. We will also inform them about the consequence of ignoring our appeal, that is, paying a hefty fine of Rs 5,000 when caught," Chaudhary informed.

November 25 onwards, the authority will start putting up the boards on the strategic 78 locations.

Besides, the authority will renovate the central verges and green belts of the locality. Pruning of trees is already underway in the green belt near Swarna Jayanti Park.

"Now we will start cleaning the central verges, said the GDA official.
