Noida: Concerned residents request authority's CEO for urgent road repair

Noida: The deteriorating civic conditions in Noida has led to a resident’s outrage in the city lately where groups of residents from various sectors have been approaching elected representatives and authority officials for redressal of issues but all the attempts have gone in vain so far.

The most problematic issues are bad roads and traffic congestions. Several accidents are reported daily from the area.

Seeking help from the authority on road conditions, a resident led forum Progressive Community Foundation (PCF) wrote to Ritu Maheshwari, CEO of Noida authority, requesting her to start the repair works on various sector roads on Tuesday.

Following the Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) and National Green Tribunal (NGT) guidelines, the repair work was stopped after a ban on construction activity was announced to limit the air pollution.

Amit Gupta, member of PCF said that the broken, unpaved roads are creating more pollution than seizing it. Moreover, visibility will reduce during winters making these roads more accidents prone due to pothole and undulations.

The PCF in its letter has suggested that the authority should write a letter to the Supreme Court before the next hearing on pollution seeking permission to start the road resurfacing work in Noida.

As per the residents, the road conditions have been critical for a while. Authority's officials have said that all the construction related work will be carried out after February.

Due to this ban, every year we get only 4-5 months of working (from April till September) and sometimes the tender process takes longer time than expected. “While the work starts at the end of year, part of work again gets postponed to next year,” said Gupta.

The roads at sectors 90, 137, 138 and 140 have been the worst affected and pockmarked with gaping potholes and craters which are flooded during rainy seasons.
