Moving around after sundown has turned into an ordeal for residents of Jal Vayu Vihar, sectors 21 and 25, Noida, as 50 per cent of the streetlights installed in the area have not been working for the past six months.

Residents of the society were forced to pool in money and buy 10 bulbs to get some of the streetlights to function again.

Narinder Mahajan, a resident, told City Spidey, “The situation has turned dire, and society guards have to keep watch with the help of torch.”

Ajay Goel, the RWA secretary of the twin sectors of Jal Vayu Vihar, said the situation is particularly bad for people residing in the stretch between M-297 and M-344 in Sector 21. Here, of a total of five streetlights, only two are working and the rest have been non-functional for the past two years.

When City Spidey took up the matter with SC Mishra, project engineer of Noida Authority, he said, "The equipment required to fix the streetlights is out of stock. Things can change only after the equipment reaches the authority godowns."
