Noida: Residents of Noida raised the demand for a facilitation centre for elderly people during a meeting with the office of sub-registrar, stamp and duty at the Department of Revenue. Underscoring the need for the centre, they listed the inconvenience they, especially senior citizens, are facing in the absence of such a facility in the city.

A N Dhawan, chief patron of Jan Shakti Seva Samiti, informed that they met B N Singh, district magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar, to apprise him about the demand.

Pointing out that currently there are three offices of sub-registrars in Noida which are on the first and second floors of the Revenue Department office, he said, “Many pensioners have made Noida their home. However, they are not getting the facilities that they should have at government offices. Due to this, they face enormous inconveniences while visiting the offices,” he said.

Senior citizen visiting sub-registrar's office in Sector-32, are forced to scale a staircase which is quite a difficult proposition for their age. The residents have demanded the district administration should solve the problem by making an additional counter for the elderly people at the ground floor of the building.

Dhawan said, "It would be quite disappointing for us if the demand is not met."

The residents have also raised the issue of overcharging the consumers for stamp papers at the office. The vendors charge exorbitant price for the legal documents. They submitted a memorandum of demands with the administration as well.

After receiving it, Singh directed the officers of sub registrar office to make necessary arrangement for senior citizens at the registry office. He also instructed them to initiate action against those who are found guilty of selling legal documents at a price higher than that fixed by government.
