Greater Noida: The officials on Friday said that the Zurich Airport International AG was chosen as the concessionaire for developing Jewar Airport. The upcoming airport is expected to become the biggest airport in India after its completion.

Zurich Airport International AG, which has its headquarter at Switzerland, made the highest per passenger bid for developing the airport. The other companies which made bid were Delhi International Airport Limited, Adani Enterprises and Anchorage Infrastructure Investments Holdings Limited.

The estimated cost of airport, which will be built on 5,000 hectare area, will be Rs 29,560 crore.

Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) had floated a global tender to select a developer on May 30.

Upon its completion, the Jewar Airport will be third airport in the national capital region after Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport and Ghaziabad's Hindon Airport. 

As per an official, the airport will have six to eight runways which will be maximum number of runways at an airport in India.

The first phase of the airport is expected to be completed by 2023.
