A gang of bicycle thieves in Gurgaon is giving residents and the police sleepless nights. The gang has a knack for getting away with high-end bicycles without getting noticed by security guards.

The gang targets specifically expensive bicycles that can cost up to Rs 20,000.  At least 25 to 30 such cases have been reported from plush societies like Suncity, Uppal Southend Floors, Malibu Towne, and Sectors 45, 46, 56 and 57. The police has registered half-a-dozen such cases, but has drawn a blank so far.

In a recent incident, a bicycle worth Rs 15,000, which belonged to a teenaged boy, was stolen from outside his home in Suncity on Golf Course Road. Although the theft was recorded in the CCTV camera installed outside the house, there have been no arrests so far. VMK Singh, general secretary of Suncity RWA, said, “We've provided CCTV footage of many of such cases that took place in broad daylight to the police. The thieves are clearly visible in the CCTV footage. Yet, there have been no arrests.”

Sumant Seth, a resident of Sector 46, said, "These thieves target high-end bicycles and in most cases no other valuables were stolen. It is visible in the footage that a young boy, who must be around 12 year of age, walked in (the house), picked a cycle and left. The bicycles being targeted by these thieves cost between Rs 10,000 and Rs 20,000.”

When City Spidey spoke to ACP Hawa Singh, CPRO of Gurgaon Police, he said that investigations are on in the areas where these crimes have been reported. He added that police presence and patrolling has also been increased in those areas.
