Solution to traffic bottlenecks at Parthala Chowk eludes Noida commuters

Traffic jams have become a routine affair at Parthala Golchakkar in Noida’s Sector 121. After receiving repeated complaints from commuters, the traffic police resorted to barricading the road. But rather than facilitating smooth traffic flow, the measure worsened the situation adding to the woes of the commuters.

The commuters face traffic bottlenecks every day on both the roads near the foot over bridge (FOB) of the chowk. While motorists coming from Greater Noida, Chhajarsi, Bahlolpur face bumper to bumper traffic, the plight of those going towards Greater Noida West is far worse as the road narrows down.

The problem doesn’t end here, the merging traffic from the service lane on Vikas Marg causes further congestion leading to choking of the lane.

Abhay Pandey, a resident of Noida who has recently written to the authority raising the issue, said, “The onus lies with the badly designed, over-shaped, over-sized roundabout at the Vikas Marg which not only causes traffic jams but also generates dust and air pollution resulting in health risk to the residents of the area.

Many of the daily commuters CitySpidey spoke to said they start from home every morning rather early, keeping a margin of at least half-an-hour as they would invariably get stuck in the traffic at various junctions including the roundabouts from Greater Noida to Noida.

Ajay Pal, a resident of Alpha 1 in Greater Noida has his office in Delhi’s Cannaught Place. Speaking to CitySpidey, he said, “The roundabouts that were designed for public convenience have become the most inconvenient factor for traffic movement around Gautam Budh Nagar”.

Neemsh, a resident of Greater Noida West, added, “The traffic situation in Noida has become worse. We will soon transform into another Bangalore.” In this context, he recalled how an ambulance was stuck in traffic for hours due to traffic snarls at various junctures.

Not just the motorists, even pedestrians going to or coming from Parthala, CNG and Garhi Village and Homes 121 add to the traffic jam on the FOB and crossroad endangering their lives.

Shweta, who works in Noida, told CitySpidey that even when there is smooth traffic flow pedestrians slow down the traffic movement often risking their lives popping up in front of speeding vehicles.
