New Delhi: Concerned over deteriorating law and order situation in the Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday asked Union Home Minsiter Amit Shah to “work together” to make the National Capital safer for women.

During a discussion on women's safety in the assembly, Kejriwal said that the Delhi government was ready to spend as “much money as required” to make the city safe for women.

"I appeal to Amit Shah ji... we need your cooperation and support. Let's come together and make Delhi a safer place," he stated.

"Delhi is the capital of the country and the tags of 'rape capital' and 'crime capital' do not look good on it,” he added.

The chief minister even asked Manish Sisodia, his deput, to check if there should be a course in schools to sensitise boys on crimes against women. He urged the judiciary to work in a way that rape convicts get death penalty in six months.

Claiming that his government has installed over one lakh CCTV cameras, Kejriwal said the work is on to install 1.8 lakh more.

"Two lakh new streetlights will eradicate all dark spots. Gates have already been erected outside the colonies to ensure security at night. About 13,000 bus marshals have been deployed,” said the CM.

However, since law and order comes under the jurisdiction of the Centre, he can't do anything about it. "If anyone goes to police, he doesn't get help. This is a fact, which can be fixed,”he observed.
