Gaur City: Protests against power problems

Residents of Gaur City, a residential society in Noida Extension, carried out a protest against the 12- to 14-hour-long power cuts on Sunday.

Residents said that the builder provides power back-up supply through a DG, and charges Rs 16 per unit, which is proving to be exorbitant, given the long power cuts.

Rakesh Singh, a Gaur City resident, told City Spidey that other societies in the sector also faced power cuts but these lasted about four to five hours.

"The builder is intentionally doing this to make money by charging the DG-supplied power back-up," he added.

Seema Sharma, another resident, was tired of the voltage fluctuations in the society. She said that a refrigerator had caught fire as a result of the fluctuations.

When City Spidey took up the matter with Manoj Gaur, managing director of Gaur Sons India Limited, he said that some cables were damaged during the development of roads and drains near the society.
He also said that residents could opt to not avail of the DG back-up. He also assured that he would talk to higher officials of NPCL to solve the issue.
