All set for Rahgiri in Gurugram. Scheduled to be held on December 15 at Sector-4/7 Chowk from 7 am, the event will be an interesting affair with the district administration making special arrangements for the occasion.

Rahgiri is a unique concept where a street/road is closed for all automobiles and kept open exclusively for walking, jogging, cycling, skating, exercising etc. for a specific time period. The event is a regular feature in Gurugram, the Millenium City.

This time around, the Rahgiri will centre around the theme of 'energy conservation' wherein people will be made aware of ways to save electricity. On its part, the administration wants to have more connect with the people living in the city on the occasion.

Different types of cultural activities are lined up for the day-long event. Prominent among them is a programme to sensitise people on human rights.

Through a video conference with the district administration on Wednesday, OP Singh, Special Officer (community policing and outreach) at the Chief Minister and ADGP, directed the district administration to make Raahgiri more interesting reaching out to more people.

The nodal officer and ACP headquarter, Usha Kundu, said that December 15 is Energy Conservation Day and arrangements will be made on a large scale to make Rahgiri theme based.

She said, "Last time, people in a large number had participated in Rahgiri organised on the occasion of World AIDS Day. Keeping this in mind, we have decided to make it theme based this time too."

The sports department has planned several gymnastics and taekwondo activities for the Raahgiri. School children will take part in painting and theatrical performances on energy conservation.

Different government departments and institutions of the district will also participate to make the programme a great success.

The Rahgiri programme is a flagship programme of the government which is reviewed by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar every week.
