Park-turned-dumpyard: A blot on Spring Meadows

Greater Noida: Residents of Spring Meadows, a society in Tech Zone 4 of Greater Noida West, have long been complaining about an open vacant plot. Located right in fron of the society, the plot, they say is causing sanitary problems for them.

The plot, which is supposedly a park, has been turned into an open dumpyard by rag pickers who use it for segregation of the waste. They pick up only sellable material from the waste leaving the remainder to rot on the plot.

A few shanty shops have also come up on the plot. Quite often cows are feeding themselves on the leftover garbage including plastic. The cattle create a mess by spreading litter in the entire area including the road.

Notably, the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has been penalising individuals and societies for depositing their waste in the open. But it seems a stricter law is needed to stop such a menace.

On Thursday, GNIDA on its official Twitter handle appreciated 22 builders societies including Gaur City 1 and 2, Himalayan Pride, ATS Dolce, Gaur City 16th avenue and 20 cooperative societies in Greater Noida for managing their bulk waste in-house.
