Greater Noida: As per schedule, Siberian birds have started making their way to the Surajpur Wetland in Greater Noida. Around 8,000 birds from far off foreign land have already descended on their promised land and with the progression of winters, more avian arrivals are expected.

For the convenience of visitors, two 50 feet high watchtowers have been erected for bird watching. Notably, Surajpur Wetland is spread over an expanse of 308-hectare land including 60 hectares water area.

Major attraction this year are ferruginous duck, also known ferruginous pochard and New World warblers or wood-warblers. While ferruginous duck is a white-eye medium-sized diving duck from Eurasia, wood-warblers are small, often colourful, passerine birds, who have made their way to the wetland after a gap of several years.

Likewise, many colourful vibrant migratory birds like common pochard, common teal, etc. can also be found if one decides to take some time off his/her busy city life and visit the serene wetland.

Talking to CitySpidey, Devendra Sivach, forest service officer (FSO), Surajpur, said, "Provisions have been made for security of the birds and the area and water was cleaned in November for their arrival.”

He added that the number of avian arrivals depends on two factors, the coldness in the region they come from and the level of pollution.
