Indirapuram: To check the use of plastic, residents of Amrapali Village, a residental society in Indirapuram, have started a 'Bartan Bank' at the society. The bank would be having more than 250 items of steel utensils for residents of the society.

Deepak Kumar, President of the RWA of the society said that the bank is adequate to host small gatherings and parties in the society. “We used to use plastic and thermocol products at our gatherings and parties. They contribute to the pollution. The bank will dissuade use of plastic and thermocol products at house events,” said Kumar.

The bank will provide steel utensils to the residents for any occasion at a very nominal price. However, booking needs to be made in advance. RWA officials said that the booking will be based on first come first serve basis. It will also be considered based on the availability of inventory. However, the residents would have to pay for this service.

The officials also told that the residents would be able to borrow the utensils at a nominal rental of Rs 250 per set. A set would include 50 plates, 50 spoons, 50 glasses, 2 jugs and 2 serving bowls.

Besides, a security amount of Rs 500 would be mandatory at the time of booking. This amount is completely refundable at the time of return of utensils.

However, there are a few conditions for the lenders. The utensils should be properly cleaned and in good condition at the time of return. For mishandling and delay in returning the utensils, a penalty of Rs 250 has been decided.
