In view of rising violence against women in the society, a Noida based social organisation on Sunday proposed mandatory self defence training for girls at schools or colleges. This, they said would help in empowering women.

The proposal came during a meeting organised by Bharat Jagruk Nagrik Sangathan on women’s safety, education and health held at Sector 74 in Noida. Members of the organisation demanded that self-defence should be made part of curriculum for girls.

Shailendra Baranwal, president of the organisation said that aim of the proposal was to make women strong and self-reliant in safeguarding themselves physically and emotionally in any eventuality.

The proposal was placed before Usha Chandra, a candidate for MLC graduate election who chaired the meeting.

Baranwal said they had urged her to take steps to make martial art mandatory for all schools and colleges if she got elected for the post.
