In the wake of widespread protests against Citizenship Amendment Act in the universities of Delhi, Aligarh and Meerut, police administration of Ghaziabad imposed section 144 in the city, officials said.

SSP Ghaziabad, Sudheer Kumar Singh, had insisted on the cooperation of members of civil societies, digital volunteer force and civil volunteer force to the police in maintaining peace in the district.

Singh cautioned people against sharing unverified and misleading information on social media platforms and WhatsApp. He said, "People spreading rumours and lies on social media platforms will be dealt with in accordance with the law."

Singh also informed that all the police officers had been directed to patrol sensitive areas of the district.

After the caution from the police department, many WhatsApp groups have changed their settings to keep a check on fake and misleading information being shared by the members.

Besides, private companies have also started issuing advisories to their employees to avoid route passing through or nearby Jamia University that has become a hotbed of protests against CAA in New Delhi. Many offices based out of Okhla have asked their employees to work from home.
