Dwarka: Artists from Rangshree Theatre Group, Dwarka staged the famous play of Bhikhari Thakur, ‘Bidesia’, at Shubham Apartments Sector 12 here to commemorate his birth anniversary on Wednesday. 

Staged under the direction of the founder of Rangshee, MP Singh, a resident of Shubham Apartments, the play was a befitting tribute to the legendary Bhojpuri folk singer.

Born on 18 December 1887, Bhikhari Thakur was playwright, lyricist, actor, folk dancer, folk singer and social activist all in one. “Gawna Karake Saiya” and “Duno Eke Sang Raheke Parani – Bidesia” are among his popular songs. 

He is popularly known as the "Shakespeare of Bhojpuri". 

Speaking about the multifaceted personality of Bhikari Thakur, MP Singh called him the pride of Bihar and so also the Nation.

He said, “The staging of the legend’s play was a humble effort to from us commemorate him on his birth anniversary. Through it, we just tried to acquaint the community about the historical figure.”
