Carrying garbage will now be a hassle-free affair in East Delhi. The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) has procured A total of 100 e-rickshaws under the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan for the purpose.

All the e-rickshaws were bought from the fund allocated under Members of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) Scheme.  These e-rickshaws will collect garbage and dispose of at the designated landfill and thereby ease the burden on sanitation workers.

Collecting garbage from the household is not an easy task. 89%  garbage, coming from households is not proper segregated. Only a sanitation worker used to do it so far for recycling.

The e-rickshaws handed over to EDMC have two separate space, one for wet and another for dry garbage so that it will be easy to keep them separate at the source.

Shahdara south zone councillor Kanchan Maheswari said, “On Wednesday e-rickshaws were distributed in Anand Vihar ward 18E. Every day, the battery run rickshaws would roam around the ward to pick up the garbage.
