The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) intensified efforts to improve its prospects in Swacch Sarvekshan Ranking 2020 in all its four zones. In this direction, the civic agency has started a unique initiative, "Eco Hub on Wheels", in Najafgarh zone also.
The Eco Hub on Wheels is a one-stop destination for reducing-reusing-recycling of plastic waste.
The vehicle was flagged off by Leader of the House Kamaljeet Sehrawat along with Deputy Mayor Rajdutt Gehlot, Chairman, Standing Committee, Bhupender Gupta, and Deputy Commissioner, Najafgarh Zone, Sanjay Sahai.
Under the Eco Hub on Wheels, plastic waste will be exchanged with a cloth and jute bags, organic manure, discounted food coupons and T-shirts/sweaters.
Speaking on the occasion, Kamaljeet Sehrawat explained how the vehicle would take rounds of the various wards across Najafgarh Zone to carry on its task.
Sahai said in order to free the SDMC area plastic-free, there was a need to flag off more such unique trucks. The SDMC will give 20% discount on food coupons or T-shirts/Sweater in exchange of 5kg dry waste which includes papers, cardboard, plastic items, old steel items, glass bottles, aluminium cans etc.
Other than this, he informed that for 3kg plastic, one jute bag and for 1kg plastic one cotton bag will be given to the citizens.
He introduced another initiative, "Neki ki Deewar", for Najafgarh Zone where citizens can donate their old clothes which are not in use for them and hang them on the wall identified for this purpose called as "Neki ki Deewar".
Inderjeet Sehrawat, Area Councilor Meena Tarun Yadav, Engineer in Chief Sanjay Jain, Councilors and other representatives of RWAs and market associations were present on the occasion.
