New Year gift to Amrapali Village: Direct access to NH 24

The decade-long misery of five thousand residents of Amrapali Village, a residential society in Indirapuram, is set to come to an end with the year 2019. A new road connecting directly to National Highway 24 has been build and will be thrown open for the public in January. 

Besides, the present road will make Amrapali Village the first society in Indirapuram to have direct access to the NH 24. The residents will be able to ply their vehicles on the road. 

To celebrate the development, the society has planned a ceremony on January 1, the day on which the road will open for the public. 

A comment by Deepak Kumar, president of RWA of the society, summed up the excitement of the residents: "The New Year with new the road for a new journey."

The route would put an end to the decade-long struggle of the residents with the tedious commute from the highway to their homes in the society. Lack of connecting road had left 1200-odd families living here grappling with day-to-day struggle to wade through an adjoining narrow lane to enter the society. 

“Entrance and exit of our society have been an uphill task. The narrow lane that we are using right now has become very congested. It takes us around 20-25 minutes to reach NH-24, which otherwise, would take a mere two minutes if the road was made available to us earlier,” Kumar said.
 
An excited resident of the society, Kapil Vats, said, "It takes me hardly 25 minutes from my office in Noida to reach the portion of highway running parallel to my society. But, to actually reach the society, it takes another 25 minutes. How absurd is that?! I'm happy that now, I'll be able to save my time, energy and fuel once this road opens for us."

For the last ten years, the residents have been waiting for the construction of a road – promised by the developer and sanctioned by the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA)  – to connect the society directly with NH 24. 

Originally, a road, running perpendicular to the backyard of the society to merge with NH 24 was planned by the GDA and the developer. The builder had promised this route to the residents in the sale brochure of the project as well, say the residents. 

However, the challenge was the acquisition of private land that lies on this planned route. After the developer failed to acquire the land, a  proposition to construct a 36-meter wide service road from UP Gate to the society came from the GDA itself. But, construction of the service road was stopped 800 meters from the society owing to the unavailability of the land, again. 

Soon after, the builder left as well. Since then, the residents are forced to use a cemented lane to enter Kala Patthar Road in order to use NH 24.
