Gurugram SDM issues directives for road safety

Gurugram: To ensure road safety amid dense fog and smog in the winter, Gurugram sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), north zone, directed officials of various departments to ensure the installation of reflective tapes, functional streetlights, signboards at all the main roads and intersections across the city.

The direction came at a review meeting on action taken on a 25-point agenda set by the concerned department. The meeting was chaired by Jitendra Kumar, SDM of the north zone, on Thursday at PWD rest house.

In the meeting, Jitendra Kumar directed all the departments to complete all the work that warrants an urgency.

He said that road safety cannot be ignored at any cost. Now that the winter is on the peak it is necessary for all the departments to make sure that reflector tape, signboard, roads in good condition, etc. are in place for traffic safety.

During the meeting, the SDM directed the officials to make necessary arrangements for the safety of children commuting to schools on school buses. He instructed the district education officer to hold a meeting of the principals and transport in-charges of all schools.

“Safety of children is a major concern. Keeping this in view, a special campaign should be conducted in all schools at least for four months in which drivers and conductors should be trained under the parameters of safety.”

“It is mandatory to have the necessary information behind the school buses including name of the school, telephone number, complaint number, helpline number and transport in-charge number so that any person can contact the school directly in case of any traffic violations,” he added.

Kumar instructed the officials of the concerned department to ensure that all roads have necessary signage and adopt ways to create awareness among the citizens about road safety.

He directed the NHAI officials to put up necessary signage and reflective tapes on exit no. 16 of National Highway-48.

Apart from this, he also instructed the officials to make arrangements for crossing for pedestrians near Sadar Bazar. Along with this, instructions were also given to the officials to take strict action against vehicles coming from the wrong direction on Delhi-Jaipur National Highway 48 near IFFCO Chowk.
