Noida: As a new year gift to artisans from across the state, the Uttar Pradesh Trade Promotion Authority (UPTPA) is planning to rent 50 shops at Noida Haat, an exhibition cum sales venue developed on the lines of well-known Dilli Haat at INA in Delhi.
These outlets would be given to the artisans for exhibition cum sales of their creations. The decision is an outcome of an experiment under which the UPTPA gave 50 shops to local artisans from different districts of the state to exhibit their creations in the ongoing Shilp Utsav, held from 21 to 29 December. The artisans were given free stalls, food and lodging for 9 days to display their creations.
Manish Chaudhary, chief executive officer of UPTPA, said that negotiations for having permanent stalls at the Haat were going on and would conclude in a month.
He said, "We have selected a location in G block of the Haat for the shops under one district, one product scheme, the flagship scheme to promote industry and business. We will now receive a proposal from ITE group, the private agency recently entrusted with responsibility of operating the Noida Haat cum Bunkar Bhavan. Once it is approved, the shops would be available for artisans with facilities of accommodation and food without any charges."
He said that allotment of these shops to them for a period of a month or less would be on the basis of rotation. For example, once an artisan completes a stipulated period of time, the shop would be allotted to the other.
Chaudhary informed that the government was also running a training and tool kits programme for artisans under which they would be given subsidies of up to 90 per cent for purchasing tool kits.
Besides, the district cell of the authority has roped in a private agency for giving training to artisans to upgrade their knowledge and skills for creation of ready-made garments.
Anil Kumar, deputy commissioner of industry, government of Uttar Pradesh, said that a target to upgrade skills of 350 artisans, who are above the age of 18, in a year has currently been fixed. These artisans should be from UP and possess basic knowledge of making ready-made garment. The training would upgrade their skills of making garments of all kinds. The duration of training would be 10 days.
