NDMC to conduct random cleanliness survey for Swachhta

New Delhi: The New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) alerted officials and resident welfare associations (RWA) to be prepared for random survey of the areas under its jurisdiction by observers of Urban Development Ministry assigned to give scores under the Swachhata Survey. The scores will be given on the basis of nine points.

The civic agency has set 38 indicators for a clean zone including vegetable and fruit markets, public toilets, water bodies, drainage, slum area, public transport hub, construction sights dust, residential shops and streets. For the first time air pollution is included as a point.

"Swacchta survey" is an initiative taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Since 2016, the NDMC is scoring fifth place in cleanliness in India. Indore is at the first position.

Chairperson and a member of the NDMC, Dharmendra, said, “The survey can be done any time. Therefore, all the 32 RWAs and market associations of the NDMC area have to be alert.”

He said that in Indore a system has been laid down by local authorities that if someone litters in front of a shop, the owner would be fined. This system makes them keep the area in front of their shops always clean.

“We can practice the same in Delhi, but we have to work in team. Keeping the city clean is not the only responsibility of NDMC and health department. It is a combined effort and if we work together we too can be on first position. We are doing well since the last three years,” said Dharmendra.

Meeting and training session were held on Saturday at the convention center of the NDMC in the presence of representative of Urban Ministry and Health Department Cities which have a population of more than ten lakh can participate in the Swacchata Survey. The NDMC is independently filing its nomination for last four years.
