Haryana advances winter break for schools by two days

The Haryana Government on Sunday announced that all the schools in the state would remain closed on December 30 and 31. The decision is taken in view of intense cold wave conditions in the region.

A circular issued by the Directorate of School Education read: “Due to intense cold wave in the state/region government has declared holiday on December 30 and 31 in all the private and government schools in the State… These orders be strictly adhered to,” It said.

With this, all the private and government schools in Gurugram are going on winter break from Monday. The circular said that all the school would reopen on January 16 as January 1 to 15 is regular winter break for the academic session 2019-2020.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Haryana is expected to witness cold wave conditions for the next few days and the visibility was also expected to remain low.

The decision was welcomed by the parents who have been demanding closure of schools in the wake of cold wave. Manisha Sharma, one of the parents, said, “As the temperature is constantly dropping, it is not safe for children to go to school in this extreme weather. Hence, it is a welcome move.”
