New Year bonanza for 70: Reunion with their dear mobiles

Gurugram: For the 70-odd people, the New Year proved a good start. They are those who got their mobile phones back. The phones were either lost by their owners or stolen in the past few months.

Gurugram Police Commissioner Mohammad Akil handed over the lost-and-found mobile phones to their rightful owners at the Police Commissioner Office at a function on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the super cop said, “In the present times, mobile phone has become an essential part of a person.”

Elaborating his view, he explained how a mobile eases routine tasks in our daily lives and how one can keep several documents in his/her mobile phones. Hence, he concluded, a mobile holds sentimental value to its owner.

“Keeping this in mind,” he said, “we have launched an initiative to file the missing report for lost mobile phone and recover them by using technology and restoring it back to its rightful owner.”

The lost mobile phones were found by cyber cell of the Gurugram Police. According to the police, the Cyber Cell Team found over 65 mobile phones in June, 100 in July and 110 in September. The team handed over all the phones to their owners.

Shashank Kumar Sawan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Gurugram, who was present on the occasion, said though it was a small beginning, it will give a lot of relief to the people who lost their dear phones.

“The Gurugram Police will continue with the campaign to locate missing mobiles in future. Efforts will be made to ensure recovery of phones in a week’s time and returning them to their owners the same week after completing all the legal formalities,” asserted Sawan.

The police have also made an appeal to the citizens to deposit at a nearby police station if they find any phone.

The initiative has brought smiles on the faces of those who got their phones back. They also appreciated the efforts of the police. Gyan Singh, who came to pick up his lost mobile, said he did not believe would get his lost mobile phone back so easily.

Another resident, Shahil Srivastava, said, “A few days ago, I lost my mobile when I met with an accident near HUDA City Center. I reported about the lost mobile phone to the Gurugram Police even as I bought a new one just seven days back. And today, they have given me back my lost mobile phone. I am thankful to the Gurugram Police for finding my phone.”
