14 injured as fire breaks out at battery factory in Peeragarhi

New Delhi: A burning battery factory building collapsed in Delhi’s Peeragarhi industrial area near Paschim Vihar on Thursday morning in which at least 14 people, including 13 firefighters, were injured.

A security guard working in the factory was also injured. According to a police official, one fire personnel was still trapped under the debris.

According to Delhi Fire Services (DFS), a call was received around 4.23 am about a fire inside a factory at Udyog Nagar area of Peeragarhi. Seven fire engines were rushed to the spot. Later, the fire spread out due to the explosion of the batteries causing a portion of the building to collapse after which many workers and fire personnel got trapped inside.

Total 35 fire tenders were later rushed to the spot.

Taking to Twitter, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “Very sad to hear this. Am closely monitoring the situation. Fire personnel trying their best. Praying for the safety of those trapped.”
