New Delhi: Passengers will now be able to use free WiFi services while travelling on Delhi Metro's Airport Express Line.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Thursday launched the ‘Free High Speed Wi-Fi’ facility in train coaches on its Airport Express Line. This the first time in India that such facility has been launched in moving metro trains.

DMRC’s Managing Director, Dr. Mangu Singh launched the facility onboard a train travelling from New Delhi to Dwarka Sec-21 and back.

To access the free WiFi facility, passengers have to simply log onto the network with the name “METROWIFI_FREE”. A pop will appear where one would be required to enter his/her mobile number. An OTP will be sent to the number after which the commuter can enjoy the free WiFi services.

Stretched over 22.7 kilometers, the airport line is the fastest of all the metro lines in Delhi and has six stations. It originates at New Delhi metro station and goes up to Dwarka Sector 21 passing through Terminal 3.

Free WiFi services already exists at the stations of Blue Line (Dwarka Sec-21 to Noida City Centre/ Vaishali).

Currently, underground train Wi-Fi connectivity operates at Moscow (Russia), St. Petersburg (Russia), Seoul (Korea) and Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Wuhan and Shanghai (China).

DMRC plans to launch the facility in metro coaches of other corridors as well in future.
