Gurugram: The Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has served notice to 20 property owners of Suncity, an upscale township located on Golf Course Road, for disconnection of their electricity for carrying out illegal construction in the area.

Now acting on a letter received from the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) Enforcement, the discom has issued a notice to these properties owners and asked them to submit any kind of document in this regard within seven days failing which will warrant permanent disconnection of electricity with no future connection.

The residents of the colony have been raising the issue of illegal construction in the area for a very long time and have made several complaints to the concerned departments but to no avail.

VMK Singh, a resident and former RWA member of Suncity, said, “We have made several complaints to the concerned authority but they seem oblivious to the matter. When no action was taken, we approached the vigilance department.”

These houses are built in an area of 60 sq. yards in the G block of the colony. The owners of these houses have constructed 5 to 7 storeys in a building even after covering 100 per cent of the ground area which is a violation of the building norms.

“We are already a power deficient colony and all these illegal establishment are causing a lot of burden on infrastructure. In last summer, several incidents of transformer burst have been witnessed,” said another resident of the colony.

In June last year, DTCP cancelled the Occupancy Certificate (OC) of 20 houses citing violation of building norms.
