New Delhi: The parent-teacher meeting (PTM) called by the Delhi government became a bone of contention between Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party and the Bhartiya Janata Party.
Kejriwal had directed to organise PTM at schools which received stren objection from the Union Minister and one of the seven MPs of National Capital Dr Harsh Vardhan.
The minister, in a letter to Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal has demanded cancellation of PTMs, giving Delhi’s chilling cold a reason and also questioned the timing of organising PTM ahead of Delhi Assembly elections.
The minister’s opposition sparked war of words in social media between the AAP and Delhi unit of BJP.
Defending the timing of PTM, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia at a press conference said, “Union Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan wrote a letter to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi requesting him to cancel the PTM which is scheduled on January 4. It is saddening and also unfortunate that we have such leaders and ministers who can stoop to the level of stopping a PTM.”
Kejriwal too took to Twitter to hit at union minister on the issue, and he tweeted, “Why do these people want to cancel PTM? In PTM, parents get an opportunity to discuss their children's progress with teachers. Many parents wait for PTM eagerly. PTM will be on time. I will also go to one of the schools tomorrow to get parents' feedback.”
Hitting back, Harsh Vardhan tweeted, “Arvind Kejriwal, stop treating parents as political vote bank and innocent school children as props to garner votes. How can PTM meetings be used for pressurising parents to vote for Aam Aadmi Party? Don't stoop to such levels. Maintain the dignity of your chair at least.”
In an another tweet, Harsh Vardhan, hitting back to Sisodia said, “Manish Sisodia, you are the Education Minister, not the owner of education. I cannot use the culture and language of the Aam Aadmi Party.”
