New Delhi: Despite the row over announcement of parent-teacher meeting (PTM), the meetings were organised in almost all Delhi government-run schools on Saturday. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and other ministers of Delhi government visited many schools to oversee the PTMs.

Kejriwal visited Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, Rouse Avenue, where he interacted with parents and teachers and praised Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi government for making revolutionary changes in government schools.

“The PTM procedures in the Delhi government schools were only on the papers. We have started holding regular PTMs in Delhi government schools. Parents and teachers are satisfied because they get to discuss the progress and growth of the students,” Kejriwal said.

When asked about the allegations of the opposition leaders on PTM being a political gimmick, Kejriwal said, “How can imparting good education to our children be a political gimmick? We have been holding regular PTMs since the last two-three years. They tried to end these PTMs but I don’t think politics on schools and education is justified.”

Meanwhile, Kejriwal was seen asking parents about the performance of schools. He also interacted with the students about the changes in their school infrastructure and teaching patterns. “Earlier, people had an inferiority complex regarding their children studying in government schools because of lack of financial resources,” he further said.

“We did not have such a platform where parents and teachers could interact with each other. Now we do, and I hope that this interaction will be fruitful for the future of the children,” Kejriwal added.

Sisodia, who is also the Education Minister in Delhi government, addressing a gathering of parents in a school said, “Our effort towards ensuring best form of education goes undeterred. We had issued notifications regarding the schedule of PTMs in newspapers and on Radio.”

Sisodia further said, “I have seen that parent-teacher meetings also give a boost to the confidence of the parents as they get to know about the performance of their kids. I am also proud to mention that our teachers and principals are learning about best teaching practices adopted by world class institutions like the Cambridge University and IIMs.”

The mega parent-teacher meeting (PTM) in the Delhi government schools was launched in July 2016 after the Aam Aadmi Party came to power in Delhi. Since then, this practice has become a regular feature in all government schools.
