NDMC to introduce digitally linked bins

New Delhi: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is planning to install 40 smart bins in the areas under its jurisdiction. The bins will provide real-time data on garbage filled in.

These bins will send alerts on the mobile phone of concerned persons managing these bins if they are not cleaned or overflowing with garbage.

Explaining about the scheme, chairman of NDMC, Dharmendra, said, “The smart bins will send out a message to the concerned person sending a sanitation worker for cleaning the bins. The concerned officer would be able to see the location of overfilled bins on his/her mobile.”

However, it is not clearly stated whether the concerned sanitation worker would be punished if bins are found overfilled.

The initiative will run on PPP (Public Private partnership) model.
